Our field data shows that wildlife poaching dramatically intensifies in the dry season and this July will become a killing season in the Leuser Ecosystem unless we step up our protection.

At least 40 Sumatran elephants have been killed in the last 2 years.

Sumatran elephants are facing extreme threats, at least 40 have been killed in the last 2 years here of an estimated 500 remaining in the Leuser Ecosystem. This majestic species is already Critically Endangered; their low numbers cannot handle another poaching onslaught.

So far this year the rate at which our rangers are finding snare-traps in the forest has tripled since last year. Dying in a snare is a long and brutal process.

Our rangers are ready to intensify their patrols for July, we just need to raise the funds NOW to be able to do it. Today Fauna and Flora International’s Rapid Response Facility have launched a short-term emergency appeal through JustGiving.
